It's crazy how much the weather can really determine your mood. Morgantown is back to it's usual dreary-almost-spring days. Despite warming up a little, the rain is here and probably going to stay for a few days. It really makes walking downtown really a chore. But I stay hopeful, hopeful that after the rain is gone and the clouds move back, Morgantown will be engulfed with the pretty yellow daffodils and tulips, telling everyone it's spring time and summer will soon be here.
I love Morgantown in the spring. It will definitely be something I'm going to miss. The way people migrate out to the plaza with their dogs and just relax in the sun. Hearing people talk about scheduling and what they are doing next semester is somewhat daunting. Due to the fact that I have absolutely no concrete plans as to yet what I will be doing at that time.
Last night I got my graduation announcements and cap and gown! I was surprised to get a package because I had totally forgotten that it was supposed to come this week. As I looked through the box, it took me back to this time my senior year of high school, sending out my graduation announcements with my senior portraits enclosed, getting so excited for that milestone and beginning the preparation for college. Now, that time has come and is almost gone. Here I am, looking at another set of graduation announcements, but this time on the other side of the ceremony is the "real world." Scary, but most definitely exciting!!
I keep finding out my friends are securing jobs, traveling around the states, back in their respective home town, or somewhere new. It's really cementing in my mind that things are going to be extremely different in just about five or six weeks. As I am still determining my own job plan, I'm starting to look at apartments and realizing this is legit and really happening!! AH! I'm now looking into possibilities in Austin, Texas. I have family in the area, and my uncle is a state senator and has some connections that might be able to help me. It's all about the people you know, right? This is a huge lead for me, but moving to Texas really came from nowhere. I was considering West Coast, but never even really thought of settling in the middle of the country. After looking up the area, Live Music Capital of the World, doesn't seem like a bad place to be. I haven't closed off the idea, so we'll see where this path my lead.
I'm headed to a speaker this afternoon with the Journalism School's Journalism Week 2009. I went to the lecture they had on Monday evening with Amy Sancetta, an AP Photographer and I really enjoyed it. I got a chance to meet her and talk to her afterwards about her job and her travels. It sounds like an amazing job and something that only few people get the opportunity to do in their life. The theme of the J-School Week is From the Sidelines to Online, The Evolution of Sports Journalism and Communications. Today at 2:30 in Martin Hall a guest speaker, Marty Rotberg is providing a presentation about Sports Marketing. I'm really interested in this, so I will be going to that. I'm hoping he will be able to provide me with some good information about how he got involved in this industry and other details of his career history. Check out the website if interested. http://journalism.wvu.edu/jweek09/ There is one more event tonight. The 'evolution' theme has been widespread across campus this semester. Not only with the Journalism Week, but the University sponsored series of lectures, Festival of Ideas, dealing with the evolution of cultures, medicine, mass communications, politics, and science. There are two lectures left in the series. http://festivalofideas.wvu.edu/ Check out the website for more info!
Off to Martin Hall for me...hopefully it's not rainy too bad outside--I forgot my umbrella.
